Val d'Isere is located in the department of Savoie in the Rhone-Alpes. The inhabitants of the town of Val d'Isere call the Avalins. Located in Haute-Tarentaise, Val d'Isere is the heart of the Massif de la Vanoise. The village of Val d'Isere has preserved authentic architecture (stone and wood).

With its huge ski area associated with Tignes, the "Espace Killy" is recognized as a world capital of skiing (155 tracks for 300 km). The station is 1850 m above sea level and rises to 3300 m. It offers also remarkable freeride trails and a snowpark. At sites of la Daille (Pillow-Killy piste) and face Bellevarde it hosts every year the trials of the men and women World Cup alpine ski. She was also one of the flagship stations during the Olympic Games in Albertville in 1992 and the world championship alpine skiing in 2009.

Jean-Claude Killy, like many other champions, learned to ski in Val d'Isere.
